Who is the ideal candidate for total body photography?
Total body photography is particularly useful for people with many and diverse moles. If any of the following questions apply to you, you are an ideal candidate. Whether or not you have total body photography done, you should have your moles checked by your physician.
  • Do you have multiple moles (more than 50)?
  • Is there a history of skin cancer in your family?
  • Did you already have a melanoma?
  • Do you have large moles (diameter more than 2 inches)?
  • Have you noticed any changes in your moles?
  • Have you noticed any new mole on your body?
  • Did you have any severe sunburns during childhood or adolescence?
  • Do you have sensitive, light skin?
What should I wear on the day of the shoot?
On the day of your appointment, please wear loose-fitting clothing, to prevent pressure lines on your skin. Make-up, nail polish and jewelry should be completely removed prior to the session. Long hair should be tied up.
How long will it take?
The session will last approximately one hour.
How is whole-body photography done?
Using a high-resolution, professional camera, images are taken of the individual’s skin, utilizing a sequence of poses with very accurate positioning. The poses employed have been standardized, and allow for overlapping total body images.
Is this covered by insurance?
No. And that's why we started Seattle Medical Photography. After one of our co-founders was diagnosed with Melinoma, he was instructed by his dermatologist to get whole body photography but was told it was not often covered by insurance. When he looked into the costs out of pocket he found that is could cost upwards of $1,200. Since he was already a photographer and had the equipment to do it himself, thats what he did - and he and his business partner decided to offer their services at the lowest cost possible.
Do you store the images?
No. All of your images are directly transfered from the camera memory card to a thumb drive, and then the memory card is formatted. We can duplicate the thumb drive for a small fee (to cover the cost of the drive), but if you loose your images, you will have to have your photos retaken.
